Top 5 Wines: Summer Edition

It’s been three years since I first “got into” wine and it still feels like I’m just scratching the surface. I’ve spent countless hours learning about wine by researching online, watching documentaries, talking with others, going to tastings, and of course, drinking copious amounts of wine. Despite these efforts, I’m not an expert. I simply enjoy learning about and drinking wine, and sharing with friends some of my favorites along the way. Hopefully, through this blog, I can help make learning about wine more approachable by taking away some of the guesswork and snobbishness.

When it comes to wine, I’m typically a red wine, or more specifically, a Malbec kind of girl. But today, I’m going to share with you some wines I’ve tried that are reasonably-priced (under $25), light, refreshing, and perfect for summer.

Oyster Bay Sauvignon Blanc

A really popular sauvignon blanc from Marlborough, New Zealand. It’s light and crisp. Pairs well with oysters (🤔 quite a fitting name) and other seafood.

Louis Jadot Chablis

A Burgundy wine that’s made with chardonnay grapes. Unlike a lot of the California chardonnays (which I’m not a fan of), Chablis are unoaked, allowing them to be light-bodied and full of floral and citrus flavors.

Mumm Napa Brut Rosé

A sparkling rosé, for when a plain old rosé just doesn’t do it for you. Fruity, smooth, and refreshing. One of my go-to’s when I need a little effervescence at a great price point.

Louis Jadot Beaujolais-Villages

Another Burgundy and the only red wine on the list. This is a fresh, smooth, and red-fruit forward wine made with gamay grapes. If you like pinot noir, give Beaujolais a try.

Miraval Côtes de Provence Rosé

When it comes to rosés, you can’t go wrong with anything labeled with “Provence” (meaning from Provence, France). They tend to be dry, fruity, and absolutely refreshing. I’m drinking this particular rosé as I’m writing this post. Fun fact: Chateau Miraval is owned by Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt (wonder if that’s changed. RIP Brangelina 😢).
