Classic Italian Gin Cocktail: The Negroni

I love my gin cocktails. I especially like the floral and herbaceous notes that you can often find in gin. Today, I want to introduce you to one of my favorite gin cocktails of all time – the Negroni.

The Negroni is a classic Italian gin aperitif (a pre-meal drink that helps to tickle your appetite). While the Negroni may look sweet because of its ruby red color, make no mistake, this is not a sweet drink and it actually packs quite the punch. Each element in the Negroni is boozy. The recipe is simply equal parts gin, Campari, and sweet (red) vermouth. No sugar or syrup. It’s a drink that declares its intentions. Just the way I like it.👌

Check out the full recipe and instructions below.

Recipe (serves 1):

  • 1 ounce gin
  • 1 ounce Campari
  • 1 ounce sweet vermouth
  • Orange peel for garnish

Instructions:

  1. Add the gin, Campari, and vermouth into a mixing glass with ice, and stir.
  2. Strain the mixture into a glass with ice cubes.
  3. Garnish with orange peel (recommend twisting the orange peel to release the oils before dropping into the glass).
