Gin Cocktail Recipe: The French 75

Like I mentioned in my Negroni post, I love my gin cocktails! Today, I want to introduce you to another cocktail that combines two of my favorites – champagne and gin. It’s the French 75.

Unlike the bitter and strong drink that the Negroni is, the French 75 is bright and refreshing. The combination of gin and lemon juice really makes this drink what it is (FYI, gin and citrus go together like PB&J). If you’re looking to elevate your drinking game, this easy-to-make cocktail might just be the thing.

Check out the full recipe and instructions below.

Recipe (serves 1):

  • 1 ounce gin
  • 1/2 ounce lemon juice
  • 1/2 ounce simple syrup (store-bought or homemade. See below for simple syrup recipe)
  • 3 ounces Champagne (or any sparkling wine)
  • Lemon peel for garnish

Instructions:

  1. Add the gin, lemon juice, and simple syrup into a cocktail shaker with ice, and give it a good shake!
  2. Strain into a Champagne flute.
  3. Top with chilled Champagne.
  4. Garnish with lemon peel (recommend twisting the lemon peel to release the oils before dropping into the glass).

Simple Syrup Recipe:

Combine 1 cup of sugar and 1 cup of water into a saucepan and heat over medium heat. Stir until sugar is fully dissolved. Once dissolved, turn off the heat and let the syrup cool to room temperature before using or storing.
