Like I mentioned in Part 1 of this two-part series, being in lockdown has taught me to expand on the meaning of the word vacation. In the past, my idea of a vacation typically required traveling to another country and dropping a sizable portion of my savings for a two-week long trip. However, throughout the past couple of months I’ve realized that there are many alternative activities that could bring me a similar level of joy and excitement as my traditional way of vacationing. Here are some more ideas for an awesome staycation!
- Master the art of picnicking. Pack a picnic blanket, food, drinks, and a trash bag and find a spot at your nearest park. I personally like to keep my food and drinks simple. My go-to food items to bring are cheeses, charcuterie, a baguette, and spreads/dips. Be a little extra and bring a wooden board to assemble your own cheese and charcuterie board. Lastly, it’s not really a picnic without some wine. If you need wine suggestions, I got you covered. 😉
- Learn to play golf. I got into golf in the beginning of quarantine for a couple of reasons. I wanted to learn a new sport my body will still be able to tolerate when I’m 60 and it’s also a sport that’s practically designed for social distancing. I will say, though, golf is not the easiest sport to pick up because you often have to be in positions that feel unnatural to your body. But as the old saying goes, “Practice makes perfect.” Don’t give up after only a couple of tries if you want to get into golf.
- Visit a winery (or a couple). I’m lucky to be in the Bay Area where I’m close to Wine Country. I love spending the day going to wine tastings and exploring the area’s food scene. Even if you don’t live near any wineries, you can still have a wine tasting experience. Try picking out a few bottles from your local grocery store or wine shop and have a small tasting party at home.
- At-home spa day. We all need a little pampering once in a while. Since we’re stuck at home, why not bring the spa to us? A spa day at home can be as simple as putting on a sheet mask. If you want to jazz things up, how about lighting a candle during your next bath and combining your your bath (bonus points if you use a bath bomb!) and mask time? Afterwards, wrap yourself in a soft, plush robe and hydrate with some spa water. For spa water, try combining water, a squeeze of lemon juice, cucumbers, and strawberries. Refreshing. 👌🏼
- Virtual game night. While it might not be feasible to hang out with friends in-person these days, hanging out virtually can be pretty fun too. I enjoy hosting virtual game night and I’m currently obsessed with the game Among Us. Check it out!
