As you can imagine, not much traveling is happening right now due to the COVID-19 pandemic. However, this lockdown period has given me the chance to reminisce about my past travels. When I think about my travel destinations, my decisions are almost always driven by the food there. 🤤That’s why today, I’m going to share with you some of the best things I ate from previous trips.
Cicchetti time (happy hour!) in Venice, Italy. Open-faced sandwiches and Aperol Spritzs are a classic pairing. Instead of sitting inside a bar, people typically take their food and drinks outside and hang out by the water. The Venetians have really figured out happy hour.
Jamón in Barcelona, Spain. Jamón is the caviar of ham. Those paper cones are filled with Jamón and manchego cheese. They’re like a portable cheese and charcuterie board. We munched on it while we checked out the rest of the Boqueria Market.
Escargot in Paris, France. Super tender and served in a garlic and herb butter sauce.👌 Great start to a meal.
Peking duck in Beijing, China. Let me tell you, I had no idea the skin could melt in my mouth the way it did. It disintegrated the moment it made contact with my tongue. I’ve had peking ducks before, but this one opened my eyes to a new food sensation. Also, they sprinkled sugar onto the skin which really helped balance out the fatty richness.
Beef and pork buns in Beijing, China. They might not look the prettiest, but man, were they delicious. The skin was so thin (just thick enough to hold the filling), and each bite was bursting with beefy/porky juices.
Prosciutto and melon in Milan, Italy. The sweetness of the melon and the saltiness of the prosciutto complemented each other perfectly. Probably the best, simple food combo I’ve ever had.
Fingers crossed we’ll be able to travel again in the near future. In the meantime, stay safe!
